AmosWEB means Economics with a Touch of Whimsy!

HOMOGENEOUS: In general, the notion that everything has identical characteristics. For example, a neighborhood might have a homogeneous culture, meaning everyone has similar income, religious preferences, and political views. In economics, it is used in a couple of different ways. One is for production, such that two or more goods are homogeneous if they are physically identical or at least viewed as identical by buyers. Another is for mathematical equations, such that an equation is said to be homogeneous if the independent variables are increased by a constant value, then the dependent variable is increased by a function of that value. In a marketing context, this is a market characterized by buyers with similar needs and wants. This group is targeted with an undifferentiated targeting strategy. The company uses only one marketing mix to satisfy this group of buyers.

AmosWEB is an Internet-based resource of economics information offered by AmosWEB LLC. AmosWEB LLC was established April 1, 2000 to publish economics information and instructional resources through the World Wide Web.

At AmosWEB, we take economics seriously, but with a touch of whimsy. We recognize the importance of economics to our lives, careers, and citizenship, but we try to have a little fun with it along the way. On the one had... serious. On the other hand... whimsical. A balance much like that of demand and supply.

AmosWEB began its Internet existence under the name AmosWORLD. (You might see AmosWEB listed as AmosWORLD in some search engines. AmosWorld.com is currently maintained by a talented artist named Amos Kmiec.) We have been providing economics information through the World Wide Web since the earliest days of the World Wide Web, when memory was measured in kilobytes, disks were floppy, and PPP was the primary way to get online.

Over the years, we've provided economics information to students, instructors, and web surfers on six continents (we're still working on Antarctic). We have consistently ranked in the top 10 percent of all websites on the Internet (according to Rank.com). Our most popular resource is the AmosWEB GLOSS*arama, an extensive glossary of economics terms and concepts. We also offer the increasingly popular AmosWEB Encyclonomic WEB*pedia, and encyclopedia of economics.

We're also very proud of the AmosWEB eTutor, a subscription service used by all sorts of students seeking a little extra help with their course work and the AmosWEB Programmed Learning System (A*PLS), an integrated online learning system designed for traditional classes, hybrid courses, and online distance learning.

The principle author and content developer of AmosWEB is Orley M. Amos, PhD, a Professor of Economics at Oklahoma State University with a couple of decades of instructional experience. Assistance has been provided over the years by Antonio Avalos, PhD, an Assistant Professor of Economics at California State University, Fresno.

AmosWEB LLC is presently based in Stillwater, Oklahoma with a branch office in Wichita, Kansas.

ALLOCATION EFFECT

A change in the allocation of resources caused by placing taxes on economic activity. By creating disincentives to produce, consume, or exchange, taxes generally alter resource allocations. The allocation effect is typically used when governments seek to discourage the production, consumption, or exchange of particular goods or activities that are deemed undesirable (such as tobacco use or pollution). This is one of two effects of taxation. The other (primary) is the revenue effect, which is the generation of revenue used to finance government operations.

Getting The Most Out Of WORKING WOMEN

No pedestrian excursion around the economy could be even remotely considered complete without a stop at the Shady Valley Museum of Traditional Family Life. Just beyond the freshly painted white picket fence and the newly mown lawn resides a full-scale, life-like, fully functional model of the traditional family. The two-car garage houses Mom's good old reliable family stationwagon right next to Dad's sensible four-door sedan. Inside the humble, but well-kept abode, we can find young Billy, who aspires to a career as a highly-paid doctor, and his sister, little Debbie, who hopes to marry a highly-paid doctor. The faithful family dog, Spot, is resting comfortably at the feet of our traditional husband, provider, and father, who has just returned from a long, hard day on the office. He has worked long and hard on this day to provide for his traditional family. Purring at the feet of our traditional wife, mother, and homemaker, is Fluffy, the family cat. Our traditional wife is busily preparing the night's traditional family fare of pot roast, potatoes, and green beans. After the meal, she will gaily clean the evening's dishes, a fine ending to her day that has been filled with shopping, baking, and cleaning. How quaint!

[What's This?]

Today, you are likely to spend a great deal of time browsing about a thrift store seeking to buy either a genuine fake plastic Tiffany lamp or a microwave over that won't burn your popcorn. Be on the lookout for small children selling products door-to-door.
