WAGNER ACT: An alternative title of the National Labor Relations Act passed in 1935, this modified and replaced the National Industrial Recovery Act that was declared unconstitutional earlier in the year. The Wagner Act was a major labor union promoting act under New Deal program of the Roosevelt administration The Wagner Act, also going by the acronym NLRA, outlawed unfair labor practices by employers, such as the refusal by a firm to negotiate with a union representing a majority of its employees. It also established the National Labor Relations Board, which oversees labor activities.

FEDERAL RESERVE BANK: One of 37 Banks (12 District and 25 Branch) that comprise the Federal Reserve System. These Banks are largely responsible for supervising, regulating, and interacting with commercial banks and carrying out the policies established by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. The large number of banks, spread across the country is what helps make the Federal Reserve System a very decentralized central bank.

CARDINAL UTILITY

The notion that utility--the satisfaction of wants and needs achieved through the consumption of goods and services--can be measured with numerical values (1, 2, 3, etc.) that are based on a benchmark scale. Cardinal utility presumes that satisfaction is a measurable characteristic of a person, like height or weight. The contrasting notion is ordinal utility, which is based on a ranking of preferences.
